Pigments, stone and water ...

Michel paints using one (or a combination) of three techniques:

LAP (from “LAPidary enamel”)
This medium, invented in the 1920s, was used by many artists of the period, including Dufy, Fujita and the Martel brothers). In a process of cold crystallization, the artist’s work is fused onto a stone-like backing, producing a hard, enamel-like surface - like a slice of polished marble.

Flotté (painting on water)
The work is created by applying pigments to a specially prepared film, floating on the surface of water, that traps and retains them.  The finished work is then transferred either onto a solid support (canvas, wood, etc.) or into a mould to be transformed into LAP.

 Life drawing
Michel transforms traditional life drawings by transforming them using one or both of the above techniques.
